One of the best tips to getting more money out of your website lies in the website itself. Many AdSense-enabled websites only generate a small amount of income because the website only has a few pages. Consider this. Suppose you have a website that has about 10 pages; chances are that you aren’t generating that much money. Now take your website and divide it into five sections and work towards adding more pages to each section. If you can add 300 pages of content to each section, that’s 1, 500 pages! With a few simple promotion tactics, you can start generating $30 a day from a single section. Compare that to the measly amount you get with a 10-page website.
Choosing Sides
An important thing to keep in mind is to make sure your website is divided into relevant sections. Most of them should deal with subjects pertaining to popular AdSense keywords or tools that people like to use. Let’s take a look at some of the sections you could incorporate into your website.
- Use a search page as your home page. It’s a useful section to have because a search page is something everyone uses. Many people click the AdSense ads that appear on search engines.
- Add a shopping section. Lots of people use the internet to shop online and to find information on buying something as small as a pair of shoes or as big as a house. Having a section dedicated solely to shopping is a great way to generate AdSense revenue.
- Computers are another useful section to have. A majority of computer users today don’t have much technical know-how. When it comes to virus issues, upgrading problems or just questions about new computer models, most people look to the internet to find more information. This is a perfect way to generate AdSense income with relevant computer ads.
- Have a finance section. This is a particularly hot topic- people are always searching for ways to either improve their credit, get out of debt or for new ways to invest. Coherent content and AdSense ads relating to credit and finance can result in some serious earnings for you.
- Other popular sections you can consider are cars, diets, loans, health and travel.

In this article, I’m going to discuss the importance of ad placement on your website. This is one of the most overlooked aspects of making money online. Even the right kind of AdSense ads won’t bring you any business if they’re put in the wrong place.
To understand why ad placement is so important, you have to understand the psyche of the common consumer. The average person generally tunes out when it comes to ads and they don’t like ads being forced down they gullet. That means large, aggressive ads on your website will be actively ignored. So does that mean you should hide your ads somewhere in the back? Of course not- if your AdSense ads are hidden, then that’s as good as having no ads at all.
Think Scientifically
Effective ad placement, especially on a website is not a matter of aesthetics; instead it is all about scientific research and study. The Poynter Institute recently conducted a series of studies on how people viewed a website while browsing. Here are some of their findings.
- People tend to view the upper left-hand area the most. You’ll notice that applications like Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer all have their document titles in that exact area. Bold, dominant headlines that are in the top left hand corner usually attract attention first.
- People tend to view the top of the webpage first. This is where they form their first impressions and decide whether they want to explore further. To make sure that people click on your AdSense ads, they need to be along the top to be most effective. Ads placed at the bottom are far less likely to be noticed.
Given the results of this research, there are three very effective ways to place your AdSense ads so that they translate into money for you.
- You can disguise your ads as navigation links. This is a bit sneaky but if done in the right way, it can translate into lots of clicks and heaps of cash. Remember that while some people might not want to click on ads, they will probably click on other kinds of links, like navigation links.
- You can install an AdSense for Search box on your site. This resembles a Google search box and people can use it for ordinary searches. The extra benefit here is that AdSense ads will pop up too.
- As we stated before, aggressive and loud ads don’t work. So you need to make sure that your Adsense ads are as natural-looking as possible- the best way is to make them look like a part of the website. Use the same color scheme, font and style when you create them.

AdSense is an advertising program that has been developed by the people at Google. When you have AdSense running on your website or blog, Google places a number of text ads on your page. These are related to the content on your page. For example, if your website page is about car repairs, then AdSense runs ads about cars or auto mechanics- these usually appear along the side or at the top of the website. Every time someone clicks on an ad, you make money. This is fundamentally how AdSense works.
AdSense is both appealing and easy, and it essentially means that your website will start making money on its own- you don’t have to do anything. Just let the ads run and you get to cash the checks. But for many people, sometimes these checks are hardly anything to write home about. Perhaps they earn a couple of hundred every few months but that’s it. And yet there are a number of other people who are earning anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 every month with AdSense. What’s the secret? Why is it that some people are earning a pittance with AdSense and others are getting big bucks?
The Big Secret
The secret to AdSense is that there is no real secret- these people just have a keener sense of how AdSense works. Let’s break it down to basics- AdSense works on keywords. Some keywords are worth only one cent while other keywords can bring in nearly twenty dollars per click. High-end keywords would be those that are used the most often in search engines, like travel, diet or credit repair. Naturally, the more high-paying keywords you have in your website, the more money you’ll make, correct?
Technically, yes. But remember that you only get paid if people click on the ads. If your website is just stuffed with keywords and the content makes no sense, then people are not going to click on your ads either. That means that you’re not going to make any money at all. So you need to make sure your content is relevant to these high-paying AdSense keywords as well. For instance, ‘attorney’ is a popular keyword that can bring in a lot of money. To make AdSense work best for you, you need to provide good content on attorney information that will encourage the reader to click on the ads.
